BARON MICAELA .750L AMONTILLADO SHERRY SPAIN
Established in 1897 by Manuel Baron Fernandez, Bodegas Baron is a Sherry producer with nearly 10,000 barrels of wine in its cellars and 343 acres on three vineyards around Sanlucar. The family goes as far back as 1871 in the Sherry business, but it was in 2014 that the brand got a facelift with some snazzy eye-catching labels. The quality was always there, and now modern American drinkers might be more willing to try it. Amontillado Micaela is a style of Sherry which incorporates both flor character from aging under yeast and further oxidative aging in American oak barrels for five years. It's an old-solera wine made of 100% Palomino and vinified to 17.5% ABV.
Flavor Profile: "Old golden color and aromas of praline, chocolates, caramel, salted nuts, wood, and almonds. A powerful palate with a silky sensation. Iodine and bitter almond on the finish." [Producer] Pair with ham, tapas, oily fish, lamb, rice dishes with white proteins and mushrooms.
